Rooftop Cinema Club’s August lineup also includes a special screening of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse during the actual Aug. 27 lunar eclipse that is expected to be visible throughout San Diego
As the calendar flips from July to August and the kids get ready to return to school, Rooftop Cinema Club high atop the Porto Vista Hotel in Little Italy with its sweeping views of San Diego Bay, is serving up one final dose of Summer vibes for its San Diego faithful.
The August lineup is loaded with films designed to bring back the memories of those dreamy summer vacations and others meant to ease the transition from Summer break back into the classroom. All told, more than 90 films are lined up for the month of August with the recently-released Obsession, the new Michael Jackson ‘thriller’ Michael, You, Me & Tuscany and Hoppers among them.

Most well-known for its dynamic queue of cult-classics, edge-of-your-seat thrillers and rom-coms, the August lineup at Rooftop Cinema Club has all that and more. It features films like Pitch Perfect, When Harry Met Sally, the Mamma Mia classics Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, Hugh Jackman as The Greatest Showman, The Dark Knight, Jurassic Park, Good Will Hunting, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Wedding Crashers, The Breakfast Club and loads more.
The Twilight series featuring both Twilight and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse are also both part of the August slate at Rooftop Cinema Club. And in a perfectly-timed twist, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will screen on Aug. 27 at 7 pm so guests will be able to watch the actual lunar eclipse featuring the “Blood Moon” during the film from the Rooftop.
The month of August gets rolling with a rockin’ good time on the Rooftop with a not-to-be-missed a Movie Night and Drag Show featuring local drag queens sashaying their way around the Rooftop before John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John light up the LED screen in the original 1978 musical hit Grease. And for the fabulous ladies of America’s Finest City, Rooftop Cinema Club has a Girls Gone Mild Night featuring The Princess Diaries set for Aug. 16.
Rooftop Cinema Club also continues to offer its Wooftop pet-friendly screenings that are not only open to families and kids of all ages, but they’re also films where you can bring your favorite furry friend. The August Wooftop lineup at Rooftop Cinema Club includes Shrek on Aug. 1, Back to the Future on Aug. 8, Hoppers on Aug. 16, Ratatouille on Aug. 23 and Marley & Me on National Dog Day on Aug. 26. And just for the kiddos, the Aug. 22 1:30 p.m. matinee screening of WALL-E will feature a fun learning experience and science show with the team from Mad Science San Diego before settling in for the afternoon with WALL-E.
Add it all up and there’s no better place to enjoy the end of Summer than Rooftop Cinema Club atop the Porto Vista in Little Italy.

Sitting five stories above Columbia Street overlooking Little Italy with a panoramic view of San Diego Bay, Rooftop Cinema Club is located at the Porto Vista Hotel. The address is 1835 Columbia Street (92101).
Lauded for putting the social in “Social Cinema,” Rooftop Cinema Club opens its doors 30-60 minutes before each screening to allow guests plenty of time to select their first-come, first-served seats and enjoy the venue’s offerings. And once the films begin, Rooftop Cinema Club’s guests find themselves immersed in their favorite movie moments through high-fidelity personal headphones and a crystal-clear picture on Rooftop Cinema Club’s famous LED big screen.
With San Diego Bay’s breeze nearby, it often gets cool at night so guests are encouraged to BTOB – “Bring Their Own Blankets” – to keep cozy during evening screenings. If guests forget to bring one along, Rooftop Cinema Club does offer blankets and sweatshirts for purchase at the Box Office.
And while San Diego benefits from the coastal breezes at night, the daytime screenings can get quite warm on the Rooftop. With that in mind, guests are encouraged to plan accordingly if they’re attending a daytime screening. Recommendations include water, sunscreen and hats. Bottled water is also available for purchase at the Box Office.

Time: Films that start before 4 p.m. are open to guests of all ages.
Films that start between 4-7 p.m. are open to guests 13-and-over and all films that start after 7 p.m. are strictly 18-and-over. Military and student discounts are also available.
Rooftop Cinema Club’s famous freshly-popped popcorn is included with most ticket purchases and also is available for separate purchase along with hot dogs, snacks, desserts and a selection of sweet treats sure to satisfy every palate. A selection of premixed canned cocktails and additional beverages, including water, energy drinks and soft drinks also are available for purchase.
Special for Rooftop Cinema Club attendees, the Porto Vista Hotel is offering valet parking for $15 total for up to four hours. And for guests who choose not to drive, Uber/Lyft, taxis or the San Diego Trolley, which stops in Little Italy, are all great options to reach Rooftop Cinema Club. Street parking is also available throughout Little Italy and there also are a limited number of paid self-parking lots within walking distance.
