Rooftop Cinema Club San Diego Showings - End of Summer to Halloween

From Summerween to Halloween and all dates in-between, Rooftop Cinema Club Embarcadero rolls out a brand-new lineup of films through Oct. 31

Rooftop Cinema Club Embarcadero at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, San Diego’s iconic outdoor cinema with never-ending views of the downtown skyline, just rolled out a brand-new lineup of films through Oct. 31, featuring a diverse and eclectic lineup from Summerween to Halloween with a dose of fun, fright, love and laughter in-between. Tickets to all films through Halloween are now on sale at rooftopcinemaclub.com/embarcadero.

More than 150 films across all different genres are queued up for local moviegoers during September and October. A small sample of featured titles includes Miss Congeniality, The Greatest Showman, Happy Gilmore, Horrible Bosses, Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Jaws and many more. The complete lineup through Oct. 31 is attached and can also be found HERE.

Rooftop Cinema Club’s newly announced program will kick off Labor Day Weekend with a three-day Summerween celebration that will feature a mix of classic and spooky Halloween flicks. A total of 11 films will dot the weekend slate and of course includes the Summerween classics Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, American Psycho and more.

Summerween is just the beginning and it sets the stage for a number of themed screenings and special events that will take place on the Rooftop through the end of October. Full details on all are below, but a small sample includes a Rooftop Romance series in September, a birthday celebration for classic funnyman Adam Sandler, Batman Day in September and a series of events all designed to bring out the shrieks and screams of Halloween in October. Here’s a closer look.

Rooftop Romance – This September, Rooftop Cinema Club is highlighting the genre that will never go out of style with some of RCC’s favorite cinematic romances. Showcasing love stories of all kinds – from timeless Hollywood classics to laugh-out-loud rom-coms to tear-jerking dramas and more. It’s a love affair whose titles include True Romance; Crazy, Stupid, Love; Love & Basketball; 50 First Dates and of course, Love Jones.

True Romance 30th Anniversary – True cinephiles will immediately recognize the timeless line, "Do you like to get pie after you see a good movie?" To celebrate that iconic line, Rooftop Cinema Club will offer a special 30th anniversary screening of True Romance on Friday, Oct. 8, the crime, love-story, cult-classic starring Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette that was directed by Tony Scott and written by Quentin Tarantino.

Enter the Sandman – One of the most beloved big-screen funnymen of all-time, Adam Sandler will celebrate his birthday on Sept. 9, and to help celebrate the man who once crowed “They’re all gonna laugh at you!” Rooftop Cinema Club will light the screen in his honor with two Adam Sandler classics, Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore.

Batman Day – Sept. 16 is Batman Day and Rooftop Cinema Club will honor The Caped Crusader by showcasing Michael Keaton's iconic portrayal that introduced The Dark Knight to a whole generation with a screening of Batman Returns.

Lost In Translation 20th Anniversary – Sofia Coppola's classic meditation on loneliness, travel, and existential dread that's somehow actually a comedy turns 20 this year, so on Sept. 17, a special anniversary screening of Lost In Translation will take place atop the Rooftop.

National Comic Book Day – National Comic Book Day is Sept. 25 and RCC will offer an ode to comic book aficionados everywhere with a special screening of Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse to celebrate one of the most iconic characters to grace a comic book and movie screen alike.

Hocus Pocus 30th Anniversary – Hocus Pocus is one of Rooftop Cinema Club’s most popular films during the Halloween season and this year marks the 30th anniversary since it first appeared on the big screen. To celebrate that anniversary, RCC will feature this timeless classic several times throughout October.

Mean Girls Day – One of Mean Girls’ most famous lines is "On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was" so this Oct. 3, what better reason is there to play the beloved teen comedy on the Rooftop?!

People’s Choice: Demonic Dolls – The popular “People’s Choice” movie night returns in October and as it should be, the theme is a bit Halloween-y and creepy. RCC devotees are being handed the life-or-death choice to vote for the "Demonic Doll" movie they'd like to see on the Rooftop on Oct. 11. Voting closes Sept. 20 and the winning film will be announced Sept. 21. Tickets to the chosen screening will be just $10 as Rooftop Cinema Club’s way of thanking its loyal fans for voting and being part of the RCC family.

The Nightmare Before Christmas’ 30th Anniversary and Halloweentown’s 25th Anniversary – The Nightmare Before Christmas, the beloved animated classic that celebrates two very different holidays, turns 30 this year, while Halloweentown, the “other” nostalgic '90s family favorite to watch around Halloween, turns 25 this year and RCC is paying homage to both classics with several anniversary screenings throughout the month of October.

Halloween Weekend – The latest program at Rooftop Cinema Club Embarcadero kicks off with Summerween and ends with Halloween, which means it’s only fitting that the final weekend of October leading up to All Hallow's Eve features a nonstop series of everyone’s favorite horror flicks. It’s a frightful lineup that features Jaws, American Psycho, The Conjuring and The Exorcist and a handful of others that will no doubt elicit shrieks and screams that can be heard near and far.

Halloween Night – There’s no better place to celebrate All Hallow’s Eve than at Rooftop Cinema Club, which this year will showcase a pair of Halloween classics, Hocus Pocus and Halloween, the latter of which is celebrating its 45th year on the big screen in 2023. It's hard to believe that it’s been 45 years since John Carpenter told the story of Michael Myers and changed entire generations of horror movies in the process.

“Wooftop” Cinema Club – Rooftop Cinema Club’s “Wooftop" dog-friendly screenings continue to rank among its most popular attractions and five such dates are on tap for Labor Day Weekend through Halloween. Dog parents should mark their calendars for Sunday, Sept. 3 (Practical Magic), Saturday, Sept. 16 (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone), Thursday, Sept. 28 (Legally Blonde), Friday, Oct. 13 and Thursday, Oct. 26 (Hocus Pocus) to come enjoy a day on the Rooftop with their beloved furry friends. A special relief area will be provided and pet owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Also, all dogs must be kept on a leash at all times.

Open Caption Screenings – Rooftop Cinema Club’s open caption screenings are open to all movie lovers and feature captions throughout the film to make the event accessible for deaf and hard-of-hearing guests. Open caption screenings slated for Labor Day Weekend to Halloween include Top Gun: Maverick (Thursday, Sept. 7), Interstellar (Sunday, Sept. 24), 10 Things I Hate About You (Thursday, Oct. 5),  Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Saturday, Oct. 21) and Hocus Pocus (Monday, Oct. 30).
