Her Conference LA 2019

This post is brought to you by XOXO and Her Campus Media

Working in social media being a blogger/influencer I think it is important to keep learning and also connect with others who are doing the same or similar things in the industry that you are doing. On June 1st in Los Angeles I had the opportunity to attend Her Conference. It was hosted by Her Campus and InfluencerHer Collective. Her Campus is a network made up of college students and graduates. They help to connect women with others and help to prepare for the transition out of college whether you want to start your own business or move on to keep studying and find a career path along the way. Her Campus is an amazing community to be part of.

Her Conference is held once a year to bring women together from all over the country to network and learn from professionals that are working in different fields. The theme for Los Angeles was Inspire!! The keynotes and panels all revolved around social media and entrepreneurship, which I was excited about and there were some great topics covered.

Some of the topics covered were:

  • How to grow following and engage your audience

  • What a career in Marketing and PR is really like

  • How to plan your posts and content

  • How to succeed at Sponsored Campaigns

  • What your analytics actually mean

Key Note Speakers included: Jessica Alba, Gabi Gregg, Bethany Mota and Stassi Schroeder

There was a lot of talk about how to get started in social media and how to truly influence others! Remember that social media is a highlight reel and is often not the whole picture, so connecting to your audience in a real and authentic way is important. Don’t be afraid to be yourself and show all sides of your personality! (I’m definitely still learning to do this myself) Think about what makes you stand out, and how you can use that to attract your audience. It is true that there are a lot of people on social media, but there is room to still be successful! If you fail that is ok!! Jessica Alba said “Fail Fast and keep it moving!” No one believed that The Honest Company was going to be as big as it is today, but Jessica kept pushing, because it is what she believed in. Passion drives you to keep going!

I really liked the panel about Analytics and Metrics and knowing how to really understand what they mean. To me this is the most confusing and complex part of blogging and social media. Paying attention to how your audience reacts to different posts, photos and captions is something that will help when producing content. It takes time to figure out, but is worth taking the time to do. Metrics can help so much when pitching yourself to a brand and knowing what your audience really is drawn to can help you put your brand story together. This is something that I know personally that I need to work on and pay more attention to.

Conference swag!!!

Not only did I just attend Her Conference, but I also got to work with XOXO!! They were one of the main sponsors for the conference and they had a super cute lounge set up. There was a station to get a t-shirt screen printed and plenty of places to get photo content.

XOXO is a lifestyle brand that is affordable and has pieces that range from day time wear to evening. You can be casual cool, business chic or sexy in any of their pieces. I love that their prints are flirty and fun to wear!! I wore a Jumpsuit and heels from XOXO as my look of the day. I paired the jumpsuit with a jacket, it was pretty chilly out on the day of the conference and I didn’t want to freeze. The jumpsuit had really thin straps. I added a fanny pack as well for my all day bag. You can see my look below.

One thing that I love about attending conferences like this one, are the connections and friends that are made!! I actually saw a few ladies that I knew already and made some new friends as well!! Talk and be open when you go to events!! You never know who you may meet.

One last thing to take away from the conference that really inspired me, was to never stop trying!! I personally know that it is hard to put yourself out there, but if you don’t ever just get out there and try… you will never know if something will be successful or not. Don’t be afraid to get out there and just try!! I had such a great time at Her Conference, and I hope that it will be held in LA again next year. Thank you so much to InfluenceHer Collective for inviting me!!
